The National Post reports in its Wednesday edition that a number of Western
Canadian-based emerging technology companies are commanding national
recognition and the stocks are making new highs, says Brian Pow, senior
technology analyst at Acumen Financial Partners Ltd. in Calgary. Mr. Pow
has chosen Big Picture Technologies Inc. Based in Calgary, this company
develops Internet and intranet software applications primarily aimed at
small and medium-sized businesses. Big Picture's off-the-shelf products
allow companies to build and manage Web sites and e-commerce capabilities.
"This software is priced more reasonably than the competition's." The
company recently agreed to acquire two British Columbia-based private
companies that operate in related fields: Morgan Media Inc., which supplies
Web-based tools and products, and Salasan Associates Inc., a consulting
practice. He expects the company to break even this year on sales of
approximately $2-million and to generate earnings of seven cents to 10
cents per share on sales of $7.5-million for 2000.
