S&P just announced DELL as their top "January effect" candidate, as per CNBC. Candidates were stocks that are off 16-53% off their highs, but are growing earnings faster than 18% for the next year. Usually these stocks sell off by end of November, and then are bought in early January for tax reasons (30 day wash sale rule); but investors are anticipating such moves, so the January effect has started occuring earlier, and should occur in December. Translation: DELL could see the (upside) breakout of its trading range before the end of the year.
