Dear Fred J. Bealle et all,
You sure did a lot of reseach on patients. I was asking the MBI about their patients. They have received a US patent (No. 5,593,866). It has been issued for a manufactoring technology. There are three way to manufacture peptide-based pharmaceutical drugs but to quote MBI's news release, "The current technology for synthetic manufacture is merely on the edge of being cost-effective and is not viable for the manufacture of complex peptides. The third process, recombinant production, for which Micrologix holds this new patent, offers the greatest promise as an economically viable." I believe presently MBI"s main focus has not been this production process but their is the possiblity other company may want to use their process to make peptides that they have discouvered. I think it is a nice position to be in. I could be a good bonus income.
In the 1996 Annual Report it states that they are "filing three additional patent applications in US, Europe, Japan and Canada". I bieleve they are up to five. "Our goal is to move our candiate compounds through the drug development program as quickly as possible" Dany Hadary, CEO, MBI. To my understanding these are parent compounds and there are many variations on these compounds. I don't know how many but say there were 5 per parent coumpond that would be 25 possible useful compounds. There could be more or less. In your statement you said you couldn't find any patent but in talking to MBI, I bielive they said patent do not become public knowledge for 12 to 24 months. It is a very complex process filing patents. You don't what some one to find a way around your patient and steal some of your potential profits. In the 1996 annual report it stated, "The breadth of our technology platform remains a considerable advantage for Micrologix as we seek the ideal partners to share in our future development activities. Discussion are currently underway with several global pharmaceutical companies" I have heard some in this forum state that this agreement was to be in the early part of 1997 but I believe Dany Hadary has never stated this. I believe they are very optimistic that an agreement can be made in the year of 97. It is not something you what to rush into. How many partnerships have broken apart because people have not had a complete understanding agreement. I believe MBI wants to form a long time good relationship with the multinationals. They want to get a good fare return. But it has to work for the multinational as well.
The upside I believe tremendous. I find it hard to comprend the dollar values. If a company had one penny for every tablet penicillin that has been consumed, it would have a lot of money. If we look forward and think that MBI may be sitting in the same position that the discouver of penicillin.
In this foram some people think that the price of the shares may go down which they have but you might want to read

Time will tell but I think this stock will do. I hope so.
