Extranet server from V-One sets up VPNs in a flash

By William Jackson

An extranet server from V-One Corp. of Germantown, Md., can rapidly set up virtual private networks that connect remote users securely via the Internet to local network resources.

Instant Extranet Server provides public and private Web and File Transfer Protocol servers and secure e-mail, running under an included, hardened version of Red Hat Linux 6.0 from Red Hat Inc. of Durham, N.C.

IXS does automated VPN client software configuration and distribution and has an online registration process. Public IXS Web and FTP sites are accessible over the Internet without restriction. Private, or extranet, sites are restricted to authorized users, and each authorized user can be limited to specified areas.

User authentication requires a virtual token that is included in the client software.

The secure e-mail server uses the 56-bit Data Encryption Standard to encrypt e-mail between IXS clients and the extranet server.

IXS server software requires a Pentium platform with at least 64M of RAM and a 4G hard drive. It must have two identical PCI network interface cards installed and no ISA cards. IXS automatically installs Linux.

The client PCs need 1M of free storage and can run Microsoft Windows 9x, NT Workstation, or Mac OS 8.1 or later versions. Users access IXS through either Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer 4.0 or later browser versions. IXS' Open Transport, Appearance Manager and Navigator Services install with the client software.

A 15-seat server license costs $1,495; a 50-seat license is $3,995. More information can be found on the Web at www.instantextranet.com Contact V-One at 800-495-8663.

Investors are advised to do their own due diligence. Anything that I may state, in any post, is merely an opinion based on prior experiences and future expectations. I may have a long position in this stock and as such I am biased by my own expectations. I invest to make money. As always, I am looking for a big return to
