truedog,
on the wedding; yeh, we first prayed about it(to see if it was what god wanted s to do). then we prayed about it some more(because when we told them they were immediately hostile to the idea). We reached the same conclusions... that it was our wedding and God would be present in our marriage even if my godparents weren't. I've prayed for my godparents a lot since then and last I heard they were coming around.
As far as Catholics vs. the idea that they are a seperate superior sect of christianity: Catholic doctrine tells us that we are correct in the idea that God's discipleship is still within the RCC. Of course the bible tells us anyone can be saved, even if not Catholic. I personally say it is a way to salvation... but I do not think it is the only way. Personally I like to think of myself as a Christian Catholic, rather than the other way around. :) when I refer to Catholic's on this thread, I am typically refering to dogma, not my personal feelings or conclusions. If it is a "I, as a Catholic" it typically means that I think the Catholic view supports my belief... and consequently I support it.
so to answer the questions: "do Catholics really consider themselves a particular sect, " yes. "apart," yes "and above," no "apart from all other Christians? " not as christians, but as practitioners of our faith, yes.
ps. why do you use the term "bastard" in reference to how Rome views you/your faith?

pps. have you seen the many many many Christian accords which have attempted to fix the divisions within Christiandom? They are not done only by Catholics, but by many others as well. |
