Skipper;
>>If we wait too long, we will be stuck."<<
Skipper, I agree with you completely. As things stand now in the world our race may have a window for escaping permanently from the cradle of Earth into the playpen of the Solar System, and finally cross the "big street" on, onto the stars, of perhaps only 50 to 100 years.
I say this with some trepidation because the quicksand of anti-rationality within the societies and political structures of Earth is rapidly deteriorating.
For every Bill Gates there are millions of others who lean towards socialism, fascism and/or mysticism. Check out the militant mysticism of the Middle East (all factions) it may be Man's future unless the Men of the Mind become the Soldiers of the Mind and fight back philosophically and morally.
The time has arrived where men of reason, like those of our Founding Fathers, draw the line and say, "No more!" The tide can only be reversed if we start pushing. I am willing and I know there are a great many others. Books and Internet sites alone cannot turn the tides that have been eroding the shores of our rights and individuality for almost 150 years. We need a new political party, call it ,perhaps, "The Continental Party," or the "Freedom Party,' or even The Constitutional Party."
Individuals who are independent and anti-collectivist are not easy to gather together because of their intrinsic independent nature. I believe, however, that we must find a way. We need a million man "March of Reason" on Washington. We need to disrupt the mystical-collectivist-atilla triad with acts of civil disobediance. We need to protest altruistic power plays from the Clinton Administration such as the upcoming call for volunteers for servitude:
We need to show we are morally opposed to "the meaning and purpose of President Clinton's 'Summit on America's Future' to be held in Philadelphia the last weekend of April.
"In a radio address on April 5, Mr. Clinton called for 'a renewed sense of obligation, a new sense of duty, a new season of service' for Americans. Clinton wants hundreds of thousands of Americans (especially the young) giving their time, their energy, their future, their lives -- to serve others. He has already embraced Maryland's requirement that high school students perform community service in order to graduate." -- quoted from the ARI
