DIAMOND DRILL PROGRAM COMMENCES AT PEDRA
BRANCA - PLATINUM - PALLADIUM PROJECT, BRAZIL

David O'Connor, President, Director of Altoro Gold Corp. announces that the
diamond drilling program has commenced on the Company's Pedra Branca
platinum - palladium project, located 250 kilometers southwest of the port city
of Fortaleza, Brazil. A program of 15 shallow holes totaling 1200 meters is
planned for this first phase. As well as aimed at expanding the known platinum
and palladium mineralization at the Esbarro and Trapia West Zones, the
program will also test several previously undrilled targets. These targets include
Trapia West where results of Altoro trenching returned 84 meters of 2.8 g/t
platinum plus palladium (Pt+Pd) including 51 meters of 4.4 g/t Pt+Pd (see news
release October 18, 1999) and the newly discovered Ipueiras, Trapia South,
Catingueiro and Troia Zones.

Geological mapping carried out by Altoro in recent weeks has led to an
understanding of the lithological sequence at Pedra Branca. Knowledge of this
sequence has led to discovery of previously unknown tremolite schist,
serpentinite and chromitite outcrops, which are likely to host platinum and
palladium mineralization. These discoveries will greatly facilitate future
exploration for the extension of the mineralization along the tens of kilometers of
potential strike length. TEL: (604) 718 9079
