Brian: Humm. Which verse? Let me refer to the broad topic because there are so many spcific verses which aply. I am sure you will recognize them.
The point is, christians claim the bible to be the word of god. My counter point is that if you look at the entirety of the book, you can see how prehistoric and contradictory it all is.
Example: The old testimate dictates that your "god" never changes and is the same day to day for ever. How is it that this god condones slavery? He gives instructions for its implementation and administration and NEVER detracts that vile institution. If this is/was god, then I want nothing to do with it.
Example: The god of the old testimate condones the buying and selling of females as objects. It gives instructions for the implementation and adminstration of the use of women and NEVER detracts that horrible practice.
Here are two examples of your god at work. From the beginning where man was created to be god's gardener, to the end where god throws millions of honest human beings into hades, one can see that your god is all too human. THIS SHOULD TELL YOU SOMETHING. It is what is between the lines that speaks to the root of the issue and exsposes the truth behind the claims of divinity.
How is it that a "god" such as the one christians claim to worship is never called into question for acts which you and I find objectionable? All arguements over doctrin aside. Why isn't your god teaching human respect and compassion? Why isn't god telling the idiots of the old testimate, "Hey you bone heads, stop that slavery thing!". Or "Hey you male pigs, stop raping and buying off women!".
You talk about love and compassion, yet if you look at it all, it has been nothing like that at all. Its all way TOO human and that should tell you volumes. |
