jay "not enough installers!!!!!"
i will accept the cable plant argument, as you can't offer to the consumer that which is not available in their area. the installer issue is questionable. with the advent of computers from dell and cpq being "athm ready", does not that lessen the time for install??? look not to what exists now, but the hardware/software incorporated from the computer manufacturer. aol and gtw cut a deal.....if aol/athm relationship formed then even gtw would offer cable ready computers. put aside the "techno" evaluation, it's a consumer product, the marketing must take precedence and give the consumer what they what...remember the average consumer switching from dial up to broadband has no point of reference for performance. try to think as the average man......for there exists more of them then those as you.....aol is a service that lacks much what the internet offers...but for the average consumer, who embraces the social aspect of "you got mail", it is heaven.
better to have a long line of people who have signed up, and are waiting their turn for install, then having no backlog. no such thing as too much backlog... basic premise of any business...never, ever, turn a customer away, because if you do they will go somewhere else(dsl), and tough to get them back "when you are ready"............"bring them into the tent, and give them what they want".......a p.t. barnum paraphrase... |
