With its DVD player shipments topping 1 million units, Raite Optoelectronics enters the list of the world?s top five DVD player manufacturers. The firm is Taiwan's largest DVD maker. Raite expects to ship 60,000 DVD players this month, with 20 percent going to the United States and over 60 percent to European distributors. An average of 150,000 of the players is sold monthly in Europe. This year, the company will turn out 220,000 DVD players. The firm also plans to penetrate the vast mainland Chinese market next year. It began shipping video drivers and decoder boards to the mainland this month, and it plans to begin accepting OEM contracts next year. The firm will double its production of video drivers and decoder boards to a combined 20,000 units next year. Its target market at home is the low-end and mid-range market, and the company expects to sell 40,000 players domestically this year.
