Happy Thanksgiving Edwarda and All
I have a little story to share.
Does anyone here not lock their doors at night?
I never did, living in a little village outside the city, I felt very safe, took walks in the wee hours, did bonfires late at night, came and went and the like.
Last Saturday night, bout 4 in the morning, someone was pounding on my door, ringing the hell out of the doorbell. Some tall redheaded woman, cursing and obviously on drugs wanted in my house, saying she knew 'Tracy' was inside. I never opened the door and after 5 minutes thought I had her convinced there was no Tracy here. Still didn't lock the door, since it was my habit not to it never occurred to me and went back to bed. Dozed off and about 15 minutes later was startled awake to hear someone was IN the house. She had gone around to the back door, gotten in, had went into the basement, all the lights were on down there, wandered god knows where else in the house. I found her standing in the family room, muttering about 'Tracy the bitch'. Her eyes were glazed, she was totally out of it. Thankfully I had company in over the week-end and we finally got her out of the house. I wasn't scared at the time, being half asleep and in a daze myself. But later, when it began to 'set in', I was completely unsettled and frightened.
You can't imagine how unprepared you are for a thing like that.
So please everyone, lock your doors, no matter how safe you feel.
