Hi Brian:
Went back today and the drill set up was gone but the driller told me he was moving to a new location which I understood to be 1/4 to 1/2 mile west. I couldn't find them and looked for 3 hrs. My new 4x4 truck ain't so new anymore:o) Anyhow, heres the co-ordinates of the last site 46 42 03 N , 81 33 11 W. It is on the south side of Hess Lake very close to the west end of the lake and is in either the North end of Cartier Twnshp or the S. end of Hess Twnshp. I was wrong the other day, the hole is 150 M deep at 45 deg. and is drilled only 300 yds. from the magnetite outcropping about due East. I think the hole was 1 1/2 " wireline and denoted on the plug as Collar 1M-11 (-45 deg.). I had a close look at the magnetite outcropping and I'm a rotten geologist but here goes. It is exposed and is 80 ft. wide by 300 ft. long running E-W. About 1/2 is blasted and exposed to about 10 ft?? deep.( there was no removal of ore)
Upon inspection, the entire outcropping appeared to be a homogenous mix of magnetite and mafic in nature. There was a stratified appearence to all the large pieces. Interspersed in seams or globs were what I would have guessed were pyrite crystallization but it surprised me they weren't oxidized at all. Exposed 10 years. Most were very Ni. in colour and some were very golden. There were many areas of huge exposed broken chunks that showed much evidence of oxidation over the whole surface area and then again many chunks had no evidence of oxidation. I grabbed samples of all and will run them by a lower level geologist at work for comment.
I know the drillers are still here (super sleuth)and with any luck will be able to find them and chat again. The drilling outfit is Forage St. Lambert Drilling out of Valleyfield Quebec 1-514-371-7171 ( off the float truck that was parked at their motel) I refused to awaken the nightshift guys to chat.:o)
Found a nice swamp to hunt moose by the way.
Later
