The magnetite showing you are referring to is known as the Bardswich Deposit. The deposit is located in the south-western corner of Hess Township near Clear Lake (or as you locals call it, Hess Lake). The deposit lies at the contact of two narrow units of Nipissing Diabase (metagabbro) and Espanola Formation (limestone/siltstone). The deposit has been explored by Jaybee Landry Exploration and Mining Company in 1966, 1967 and 1969. Bardswich conducted work on the property from 1973-1975. Work to date has outlined a body of magnetite mineralization containing 500,000 tons of 34% iron to a depth of 30 meters. The magnetite body is 144 meters long and 22-30 metres thick. Minor amounts of chalcopyrite are present. There is a small, moderate (2,400 gammas) anomaly associated with the showing.
My initial impression is that the magnetite deposit itself holds little potential for nickel or PGE. However, there appear to be some interesting targets in the immediate area that you may wish to check out before the snow comes (if the ground isn't covered already).
On the north side of the south-western arm of Hess Lake there is a porphyritic metagabbro dike exposed on the lakeshore. The dike is surrounded by a large quartz monzonite body. If you get over to see it, the monzonite will be pink and the metagabbro will be dark green or black in colour. Check to see if the metagabbro has any chalcopyrite in it. If it does, have it sent out for copper, nickel, PGE analysis.
I would assume you live in the town of Cartier, so you won't have far to go to sample that outcrop.
As far as CBA's drilling goes…..I don't have high hopes…but, hey….you never know, right?
