Red Hat, Inc. Signs Strategic Partnership Agreement With Ariel Corporation
Ariel To Provide Linux-Based PCI Remote Access Solutions For Red Hat's ISP and Enterprise Customers
ISPCON.--Ariel Corporation (NASDAQ:ADSP), a leading supplier of open systems remote access solutions for ISPs and the enterprise, today announced that it has signed a strategic partnership with Red Hat, the leading builder of the Linux operating system. The new relationship will give Red Hat's Linux customers easy access to Ariel's high-density PCI-based remote access solutions, while enabling Red Hat to enhance its presence in the ISP and enterprise server markets.
Ariel and Red Hat will participate in a number of joint marketing activities aimed at promoting Red Hat Linux and Ariel's high-density remote access products as the preferred platform for building ISP and enterprise points of presence. Among other things, Red Hat will distribute drivers for Ariel's remote access cards on its Linux Application CD, participate with Ariel in a joint direct mail campaign, and host Ariel white papers and other marketing materials on its new Linux portal. The two companies will also engage in cooperative marketing efforts that specifically target ISPs, such as co-operative exhibits at ISPCON, COMDEX, and Linux Expo.
"Red Hat Linux is a key element of our remote access strategy, including our new PowerPOP initiative for ISPs," said Dennis Schneider, vice president of marketing at Ariel. "Linux was the fastest growing server operating environment in 1998, accounting for 17% of the market. And Red Hat is the leading builder of the Linux operating system, with solid penetration in both the ISP and enterprise markets. We're excited to be working with the industry leader, and look forward to providing Red Hat's customers with easy-to-integrate, high-density remote access solutions."
"We're pleased to have Ariel on board with Red Hat Linux and look forward to working with Ariel to offer high-density remote access to our customers," added Paul McNamara, vice president of business development at Red Hat software. "Ariel's PCI-based remote access products and PowerPOP architecture are ideal for building intelligent Linux-based points of presence that are affordable, scaleable and provide high availability."
Ariel's PCI-based RS2000 remote access card makes it easy for Linux integrators to add high-density V.34, 56K, and ISDN remote access to their Linux systems at a fraction of the cost of dedicated remote access concentrators. With Ariel's add-in cards, fast-growing ISPs can quickly deploy intelligent Linux-based PowerPOP points of presence that not only reduce remote access costs, but enhance network flexibility and efficiency. Linux systems equipped with Ariel's remote access cards are also ideal for building scaleable, flexible, high-availability remote access systems for use in the enterprise and telco applications.
Ariel's RS2000 gives Linux systems the physical connections needed for remote dial-in, LAN dial-out, and Internet back-haul. Combining dual T1/PRI interfaces with 24 V.90 modems on a single PCI plug-in card, the RS2000 can accommodate up to 46 remote access sessions originating from any combination of digital V.90-compatible 56-kbps, analog 33.6-kbps, or 64-kbps basic rate ISDN customer premises equipment. One PRI interface, together with the card's 24 modems, provides 24 V.34, 56K, or BRI sessions. The second T1/PRI interface can be used to support an additional 23 BRI sessions, or to provide back-haul to the Internet, the PSTN, or a private network. |
