Hi Jay, it looks like AOL will be doing a few things here. One, they will be doing electronic bill presentment and payment (EBPP) for the masses, which subject we discussed here briefly about two weeks ago. And secondly, they appear to be facilitating some form of virtual loyalty card services for their principals, namely the businesses who would use them, but this part isn't so clear.

In any event, they will, along with Intuit, be acting as the intermediary. Brilliant. Just the other day we were saying here in this forum that such types of services (EBPP) were picking up in the B2B sector, but slow to catch on for the ordinary consumer in the B2C space. And along comes the largest of all ISPs to facilitate these services for the world at large.

Next, disintermediation sets in at some point. I wonder how they will handle that one, when the Bs take it directly to the Cs. Any ideas when that will be? Or will the larger utilities and whomever see a benefit to outsourcing this form of intermediation indefinitely?
