Teltrend Removes the Barrier to True Voice and Data Convergence
BRIGHTON, England, Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- "Despite the much heralded arrival of European-based access and private networking standards such as Q.931 and Q.Sig, approximately 80% of UK private voice networks still use DPNSS as a signaling protocol. Moreover, DPNSS switches continue to be in demand," according to Tony Martin, Sales and Marketing Director at Teltrend Ltd, the signalling interworking and access network specialist. "But there is no reason why this should be a barrier to true voice and data convergence over packetised or IP networks," he claimed.
In order for voice and data convergence to take place both the telecoms equipment and data equipment such as routers or multi-service access platforms, need to be able to "talk" to each other. The prevalence of DPNSS as a telecoms only standard and its continuing popularity through the rich set of supplementary services that it provides, has inhibited this happening as most data networking equipment has been built to meet the European Q.Sig/Q.931 standards.
Now there is no longer a barrier to convergence according to Tony Martin. "Using Teltrend's InterChange iQ 200, will allow companies to run their private voice networks over frame relay, ATM or IP networks. The InterChange iQ 200 allows users to fully exploit next generation networks by providing the bridge between circuit switched and packet networks, without losing the features of DPNSS."
InterChange iQ 200 provides seamless and effective interworking between PBXs and networks using different protocols, allowing Q.Sig based multi-service access platforms to carry DPNSS based voice traffic over single voice/data/image frame relay, IP or ATM packet networks. It provides the crucial link between private voice networks running DPNSS to single packet or IP (next generation networks).
InterChange iQ 200 will provide users of telecom networks running on the proprietary UK standard (DPNSS) with the capability to interwork with the new Q.Sig standard.
Protocol conversion is performed between the PBX (DPNSS) and the multi-service access platform (Q.Sig) which connects to the packet transmission network. It also supports DASS2/Q931, DPNSS/Q931, DASS2/DPNSS interworking. InterChange iQ 200 can also be used with a wide range of CPE (Customer Premise Equipment) including routers, ACD systems, multiplexers and voice processing systems.
