Globe says Ballard sustains market confidence

Ballard Power Systems Inc BLD

The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, Nov. 26, edition that Ballard
Power Systems recent stock advance reflects the growing confidence in the
company's technology and in the fuel cell sector. The Globe's Wendy Stueck
writes that the jump in Ballard shares this week follows several recent
announcements by the company relating to $5.8-million in fuel stack orders.
The orders are for stacks that will become part of fuel cell engines DBB
Fuel Cell Engines Inc., plans to make for Ford and other automotive
companies. Pacific International Securities analyst Kevin Binnie does not
have a current recommendation on the stock but follows it closely and says
the biggest question for shareholders is now not if Ballard's technology
will get to market -- but when, and with what degree of penetration. It is
relatively easy to predict the number of automobiles that may be
manufactured in 2003, Mr. Binnie says, "but nobody knows what the take-up
of fuel cell-powered vehicles is going to be." Ballard has competitors in
the fuel sector, but analysts generally agree the company has a head start
in terms of research and patented technology.
