I think it depends upon the individual. Personally, any time I own 1000 shares or more of one stock I feel that I have a medium-sized position. Anything over 5000 shares, I consider, a large position for me.

I know a few people who think that you don't own much of a position at all unless you have 10,000 shares or more.

I guess it depends how deep your pockets are.
