Zambia is a democratic republic found in lower south central Africa. The year 1964,Northern Rhodesia declared independence from Britain and became Zambia. Area - 752,614 sq. km's / 290,586 sq. mi. making it slightly larger than Texas; Population - appx. 9,000,000+; Capital - Lusaka appx. 900,000+. Terrain mostly high plateau with rolling hills and mountains, home to spectacular Victoria Falls; Climate - tropical with severe rainy season from October to April; Neighbors are Zaire, Angola, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Malawi; Politics and Government - in 1991 sweeping political reforms, adopted a multi-party democracy and shifted from a state contolled economy to a free market system. Zambia is fourth worldwide in copper production and second in COBALT. The government has liberlized trade policies and is actively encouraging private investment in mining and minerals.
