Tony,>>>Two announcements are expected Monday:<<<

AMD reminds me of another financially troubled company that made last ditch product rollouts and spectacular marketing efforts before going into bankruptcy.

Remember Syquest. They made a high capacity removeable disc drive that had 5 times the capacity of then market leader for almost the same price. The spec sheets on that product were also quite spectacular - outperforming anything that was on the market at the time.

The product according to a lot of the techies on SI was quite robust and had some nice (and advanced) features (like an on/off switch) and a shield that provided protection in hostile environment.

Unfortunately they had clowns for management and many of the top talent abandoned ship early on. Needless to say the company had a spectacular run during the roll out period and enjoyed day trader favor.

Not too long after a successful rollout, a succesful ad campaign, the company went bankrupt.

I wonder if a case study of the Syquest story could be used to predict and prevent people from investing in companies that have clowns for management and are doomed to fail.

Regards,

Mary
