Could this announcement affect the stock price of Gemstar on a short term basis?

Have you ever heard of Oceanic Cable before? For Gemstar to obtain every MSO uncontested would be similar to witnessing a shutout in the NBA. There is a need to be realistic. My call for 200M households within a decade is roughly a 33% share of the current market. I believe much more is possible but this will suffice for any forecasts on my part.

This is a monster market or a Gorilla breading grounds as some would prefer. The winner in this industry will not be much unlike a Microsoft of the PC era. There will undoubtedly be challenges and more litigation in various countries but you simply have to go with the clear global leader of a certain Tornado.

I speak little of stock prices and market valuations because of my belief that these are trailing indicators at best. Comprehensive intellectual properties, vast global alliances, exclusive long-term contractual obligations with major distribution channelers and a focused management team are leading indicators in my view. The additions of John Malone and Rubert Murdoch to this team have significant implications going forward however I would not venture another dime without the continued and heretofore unparalleled (convergence industry specific) vision and tactical strategies of Henry Yuen.

All in my personal and non-professional opinion.
