I think the general problem is that over the past 15 years
or so, computing has become synonymous with Windows. Being
"in your face" computing, people who know no better get the
wrong idea.

In fact, there are many fine examples of computing as it should be, eg video games, game consoles, ATM's, antilock
braking, that never gets appreciated because 1) they work,
and 2) they don't get in people's way,.
