<<When I lived in Seattle, everybody who was anybody lived on Lake Washington. Has that changed with msft and all? (Serious question.)>>
No, that hasn't changed. Bill Gates has the most expensive property on the Lake. I believe its valued @ over $100mil.
One of the funniest things I can remember was reading an interview a few years ago that Bezos gave which he was described as being extremely frugal. To the extent that he drove a little Honda, and lived with his family in a little loft. Well a few months before that article, I happened to be visiting a friend that lived on the Lake. We were walking his property when he pointed out to me, that's where Bezos lives. I said "I thought he lived in a little Loft?"
I was informed that he paid $12mil for that little loft, and he had BMW's in his driveway.
My Gal friend asked me if it was legal to give such a misleading interview. I told her yes, its legal but your looking at Public Relations at its best.
The Bezo PR machine would never have wanted the public to know that Bezos who has been pissing $millions away, was living like a king.
Ps
Did you know that a June 4 1999, report of a study of top-ranked Fortune 500 "Most Admired Companies" showed that the average company spent over $25mil on public relations in 1998? What did all those dollars accomplish? Plenty.
The software industry pioneered the concept of "Vaporware"- introducing a product, even selling it before it actually existed. How was that possible? Simple. PR put out the word ahead of the product, developing a need that became a thirst that soon turned into a demand.
Jeff Bezos is the the best PR man this country has ever seen. All the Amzn longs should be proud of this, while the CPA's still continue to shudder.
