What are the Chances of Mannesmann Accepting?

Members of Mannesmann AG's supervisory board say they won't vote against a takeover bid from Britain's Vodafone Airtouch PLC (NYSE:VOD - news) if they believe in its strategy for integrating mobile and fixed-line telephone networks.

I will say they will reject the bid and bed down with Esser. I will rejoice if I am wrong but indications are Mannesmann wants to stay independent.

My conclusion: Vodafone has a rough idea as to whether or not they have enough Mannesmann shares for a takeover. Mannesmann also has a rough idea where they stand. One company is wasting a lot of money, resources, and time on its efforts. Hopefully, that company is not Vodafone. I will be one upset shareholder if Chris Gent's statements of the past few days are inaccurate. Gent is confident he has the shares therefore no cash is forthcoming. Mannesmann will be taken over by the end of January. It is in Mannesmann's best interest to accept the bid.
