Timothy and Thread:

As for Athlon being currently available I suggest you shop @ a Circut City or CompUSA. They have the 500 and 600 CPQ's as display models only. They can't promise delivery before Xmas. CC also has no 500 or 600 systems in the regional warehouse.

I just called 2 of my local BBs. According to the guy I spoke with...the first one had 2 650 Athlon's in stock, but no cumines. The second store had 2 733 cumines and a number of 600 mhz Athlons in stock.

But...I was in the store last week and they had plenty of Athlons. Sounds like they sold a bunch over the weekend!

I do agree that there has been a little "irrational exuberance" on the thread over the holiday. As a true long, I'm just happy to be over my basis again! This has been a crappy stock and to date a relative poor investment (although the past month has made up for it as I bought at the lower prices). But let's face it, there is a lot of good news right now for AMD.

I am confident that this will be a great quarter, and I believe that things are on track for Q1. Yes, Jerry has made some promises before that he couldn't keep. But he appears to have learned his lesson (let's hope). It will take some time for AMD to regain the trust that it has lost from investors and analysts alike. Some people, however, have short memories....<g>

In Amd's defense, this is a very difficult business. Amd has come close to death on many occasions...remember how they couldn't yield at .25? I'm shocked they aren't in chapter 11.

Bottom line, there is a lot of credit that goes to the engineers....process guys and everyone else who worked hard to get the K7 out the door. It has been an impressive performance. As for Jerry's performance...I think all I need to say is "Atiq who?"

For this company to be viable in the long term, of course, this incredible effort must continue.

But hey, I'm preaching to the choir....right?

Also, I'm waiting for the new via chipset to build an Athlon to replace my k6-2...but I'll contribute to sales in the fall.<g>
