Renault may re-enter F1 using DFI as their advantage:

atlasf1.com (scroll down to third story)

This would bring TREMENDOUS attention to direct injection in Europe - the demand for it (in passenger cars) would explode. Note they do expect additional power (not just improved fuel economy). And an rpm limitation immediately becomes an issue, as F1 engines - which are 4S - turn 17,000 rpms. Faster than a valvespring can operate, so the valves are pneumatically operated (this valvetrain is banned in CART to keep costs down, as are carbon fiber brake rotors). OCP should have no trouble with 17k rpms, as it can easily operate at 8500 rpms in a 2S engine (same injector firing frequency). This is very good news, although I doubt OE could afford to even have a small advertising spot on an F1 car (as they do on Aprilia's race bikes).
