Willamette is a new generation, not a tweak to an existing core. Intel has demonstrated they can manufacture HUGE on die caches. AMD to date has demonstrated that they can't. Intel is neck 'n neck with AMD in MHz on a core that doesn't use a deep pipeline, which the Athlon does have. Willamette will have that deep pipeline too.
