Ted,
CXT is the name of the enhanced core change the K6-2 underwent at 350Mhz...(circa December '98) which was supposed to propel the core to greater MHz. Unfortunately, in the beginning, while yields were good, bin splits were not. Many chips that were supposed to be 400 and above had to be sold as sub 350 MHz parts. This coupled with the faster Celerons Intel produced to counter the K6-2, put the death nail in AMDs Q1-99 earnings because of the low ASPs and later hurt AMDs credibility with OEMs who didn't flock back to AMD when bins were improved.
Officially, AMD blamed the debacle on a late mask problem. Others here, including myself called it a design problem.
