He sees them as eventually playing a significant role in the world's energy production and transportation systems. He added, however, that they are "not around the corner" and it will not be easy getting them to the point where they can replace the internal combustion engine. He stated that Ford's first FCEV was a "multi-million dollar vehicle." He said that the newly formed California Fuel Cell Alliance is discovering how little it knows about the commercialization of fuel cell technology from manufacturing to advertising.
