jhg, I suggest you reread chapters 2 and 3 about stock market bubbles. Here is a quote: Growth took on an almost mystical significance [during the 1960s], and questioning the propriety of such valuations [P/Es of between 50 and 100] became, as in the generation past, almost heretical. These prices could not be justified on firm-foundation principles. But investors firmly believed that later in the wonderful decade of the sixties, buyers would eagerly come forward to pay even higher prices.
