Frank,

I apologize to Jill, Donna, and Poet for any grievances they might have against me, and invite them to re-join the thread and take leadership roles

That apology is appreciated, and it was all that was ever necessary, even by PM--not resignation from a thread that you have otherwise shepherded with great care. One might wonder why things matter so much in cyberspace, often with people we've never met, but the fact is, many of us are building our financial future and SI is the hub of information and connection that we use to do it, and often I find I can't discuss this stuff in depth with my friends. They might want a stock recommendation but they aren't spending what sometimes amounts to several hours a day reading through posts, doing research, exchanging information and setting trading/investing positions. So it does matter. People here become friends in a different and meaningful way.

I was impressed with Stan's post yesterday about gender wars in medicine. First of all, I was impressed that he took the time to ponder and discuss it. Second, his post showed the complexity of the situation in real life. This situation has also been complex. I won't go over it all again now.

I should say that teasing, (often with a <g> added to indicate tone), a bit of flirtation, back-slapping, OT sports discussion, or someone not responding to a specific post is all completely acceptable. What is not acceptable to me is singling out a woman, by PM or publicly, to chastise the content/form of a post when the guys have made similar posts, and they are not also singled out.

I also find something else unacceptable: all the women who PMed me in the last month, with some very strong words about sexism in this forum, but refused to post publicly, saying they didn't want to be flamed, or they didn't think they could change things. Mike Buckley is right: why give credence to comments by PM that remain private?

Frank, this is still a stellar thread--why don't we turn swords into stockshares and learn from what has transpired.

Jill
