Two Chinese DVD players Raite(ESS) and Konka(C-Cube) were reviewed in.. Home Theater Magazine
Raite was reviewed (panned may be a better word for it) in the October issue.
Here a snipit:
Raite AVPhile 711 DVD Player A 7-Eleven DVD player for Joe Lunchbucket.
It kind of freaked me out when I saw cellular phones available at the 7-Eleven about a year or so ago. The thought of a Big Gulp, a pack of Camels, and a cell phone in one order seemed a bit weird. Now that I've gotten used to it, it seems almost sensible that some people might want to buy a Slurpee and, say, a DVD player.
When that day comes, boy, do I have the DVD player for them: the Raite AVPhile 711. Hey, the price is right, and you can't really argue with the name.
So what do you get for your $199 when you buy an AVPhile 711? A cheap, mostly functional unit. If you're the kind of person who'd be willing to buy a $79 VCR (other than for throwing out the window of a high building or use by preschoolers), your DVD player has arrived.
[snip] One interesting feature: When you start skipping ahead rapidly by chapter, and the player locks up, it automatically shuts down, saving you a step when you wish to fling it across the room. [snip]

This month the same reviewer covered the Konka player. He said he was ready to dislike the Chinese made Konka as much as the Raite, but was surprised at how well it performed. The review is not online yet, probably won't be until the next issue is out. So check on their equipment review link early next month. hometheatermag.com |
