Intelispan Teams With IBM toLaunch Secure Networking Solution for ASPs on NUMA-Q Servers November 29, 1999 12:15 PM SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 29, 1999--
Brings secure IP Network to NUMACenter(TM) platform for end-to-end application hosting solution
Intelispan Inc. IVPN Monday announced it is teaming with IBM, NUMA-Q(R) brand to develop a packaged end-to-end application service provider (ASP) offering that brings its high-performance, secure virtual private network (VPN) technology to IBM's NUMA-Q and NUMACenter(TM) servers.
The solution will target mid-tier to large enterprise customers and emerging ASPs.
Intelispan will offer its Internet Protocol (IP) network services along with hosted third-party applications integrated on NUMA-Q and NUMACenter systems under a "per seat" price structure.
Intelispan has taken full advantage of the IBM ASP Prime Solution Center for Unix and Windows NT to optimize Intelispan products and services on the NUMA-Q and NUMACenter platforms, including exSPANd VPN services, InteliCenter network management services and TradeSPAN electronic commerce technology.
"Performance and security are two critical requirements for businesses looking at the Web-hosted applications model. The combination of Intelispan's IP-based VPN services and IBM's NUMA-Q data center infrastructure meets both these requirements for an ideal solution for application service providers," said Ron Loback, chief operating officer for Intelispan.
Intelispan offers several tiers of IP-based VPN solutions based on enterprise application requirements. For applications that are highly sensitive regarding performance or security, Intelispan offers its premeire exSPANd-PKI service, which utilizes X.509 certificates for network authentication, as well as private IP addressing across the backbone.
For applications that are less sensitive to performance or security, Intelispan offers more traditional Internet-based VPN solutions. Intelispan also offers electronic document management and public key cryptography (PKI) products for midsize and large corporate enterprises.
"The partnership with Intelispan builds on IBM's Service Providers for e-Business Initiative announced last month.
"The complete ASP solution integrates critical elements of a service provider infrastructure, including the NUMACenter platform, Intelispan IP networking services for high security and optimized third-party applications for a Web-hosted solution," said Kevin Joyce, director of the ASP Prime Solution Center for Unix and Windows NT at IBM.
"The result is a highly scalable, highly available, highly secure environment that will make service providers more successful in meeting their service level agreements. Additionally, it opens the door for businesses using ASPs to netsource with confidence those applications requiring the greatest levels of security."
ASP Prime
ASP Prime is an IBM PartnerWorld for Developers initiative to help ISVs prepare their applications to be hosted by service providers and delivered to customers over the Web. This support for developers includes education, application evaluation, technical support and a wide range of consulting services for qualifying ISVs.
The ASP Prime Solution Center for UNIX and Windows NT in Beaverton, Oregon enables software partners, such as Intelispan, to develop data center class ASP solutions that take full advantage of Windows NT for front-end hosted solutions.
The NUMACenter Environment
The NUMACenter platform provides a framework for consolidation and rapid deployment of large scale Windows NT applications. NUMACenter is the industry's first system to support concurrent Windows NT application and database resources within a managed and fully integrated environment including Intel processors, middleware, databases, storage, back-up and management tools.
NUMACenter combines unique technology, such as the NUMA-Q architecture, Storage Area Network capabilities and the Advanced Detection Availability Manager (ADAM), with key partner components. NUMACenter provides a framework through which an application service provider can quickly deploy applications and add new capabilities over time, protecting their infrastructure investment.
