I think it's a real weakness of this thread.
Actually, its not, Ed. It's is one of our strengths!
We need a "barrier to entry" on this thread, and that barrier is the book. If you haven't read the book, we don't want to hear from (generically speaking) you!
You have to go though "basic training" to join us. You expect that treatment in all other endeavors of life, why not here?
If a lady asks me to dance at the Derby, I ask her if she can Lindy. If she can't, I tell her where to go to get lessons. Most of them that can't lindy, get pissed, and go elsewhere. The ones that are serious get lessons and come back. The women at the Derby would not dance with me until I knew how, and I did not expect them too.
If you want to Tango in Argentina, you are not allowed to dance with a woman until you are good at the Tango. How do you learn? You take lessons, as a "follow" with other men, and switch back and forth until you are good!
Walk up to a Marine, and try to tell him how to be a Marine, without going through basic training first, and you will get your lunch handed to you! |
