Haven't been on the net for a while. To answer your questions, I am from Stateside, grew up around Washington DC but have lived many places. Now work mostly overseas, currently in Paris. The French aren't ready for SLVR. It took McDonalds years to gain a foothold. Burger King has left town. Planet Hollywood is still open, but I don't know how well they are doing. This is a very different culinary culture. Many middle class French people would rather forego a dinner if it isn't served with white table cloths and fine wine. SLVR would do better in England, Germany or Scandinavia.
In regard to lodging in Paris, there is a modern motel chain called Formule 1 which gives you a room for up to three people (big queen bed plus loft bed). There is a sink in the room, but toilets (very clean) and (separate) showers are shared in the halls at the ratio of four rooms to one toilet and to one shower. Price is about $35 per night per room, total. It's hard to beat that price in Paris. Neighborhoods are not like Georgetown, but they appear to be generally safe. A lot of business people use that chain when they travel. There is one between Paris and EuroDisney, and a few others scattered around the Paris beltway near Metro stops or bus lines. [Disclaimer -- do your own DD for lodging as well as stocks.] Also, there are low-priced youth hostels, which are open to people of all ages. For membership info write American Youth Hostels, 733 15th St. NW, Suite 840, Washington, DC 20005. |
