I have cable, it is so much faster than the old ATT I had before. But, as more and more upgrade, there can be a few outages; once it is all complete, no problems.
Cost is cheaper than DSL - I pay 29.95/month, including ELNK (I have Charter.) Modem rental is free for 6 months - will decide then whether to buy or rent.
But, if the site you want is slow (SI) or busy, all the fast connections won't help you a bit.
