Sergio regarding Ditch diggers dad and his purchase of SPLS,
I don't believe there is a better stock in that industry right now. As mentioned in the excerpt from one of their press releases, part of the pressure on the stock is coming from competitors like ODP and OMX. The recent deal to increase expansion in the Florida market should help.
The news behind the recent turn might mostly be attributed to the first sentence below.

>>The company has said it may consider a public
offering of Staples.com. Including the Staples.com loss, Staples said it still earned 20 cents a share in the quarter ended Oct. 30. Sales at stores open more than a year, an indicator of a retailer's growth, rose 9 percent -- within the range several analysts said they had expected.
Overall sales rose 25 percent to $2.37 billion from $1.9 billion in the year-ago quarter. Shares in Staples rose $1 on Tuesday to $25.75, continuing a surge that began on Monday in part on the strength of upgrades by securities analysts. Staples shares had suffered earlier this year, which some analysts blamed on weakness at competitors Office Depot Inc. (NYSE:ODP - news) and OfficeMax Inc. (NYSE:OMX - news)
