From El Economista, November 22 issue, on occasion of G* Mexico announcing license:

Translation by AltaVista

babelfish.altavista.digital.com

Article starts out oddly with reference to restructuring of Autrey House (a SatMex and, I guess, G* Mexico investor), but third paragraph and subsequent are very interesting. Wish someone that is fluent in Spanish could translate third paragraph which mentions expectations of 10K users, but timeframe is not clear. Last week Reuters said 10K by end of Y2K, which would be extremely disappointing, IMO.

"The satelite business is not affected

JAIME HERNANDEZ

Of no way it will influence in the businesses of Mexican the Sat‚lites company
(Satmex) nor in Globalstar which it will commercialize services of satelite
telephony - and whose concession received the week last of hands of the
Secretariat of Communications and Transportes (SCT) -, the letter of intent that
the Autrey family established with the industralist Isaac Saba to sell the majority to
him shareholder of Group Autrey House, its pharmaceutical product distributor. The previous thing recognized the executive president of Satmex and Globalstar,
Lauro Gonz lez Moreno, who also discarded that there is a change in the structure
shareholder of the Principi company in the Satmex company (approximately 30%)
and in Globalstar of which comprises. It emphasized that the agreement of
understanding with the Saba will not have effects since is independent and
independent businesses.
In addition, it said not to have knowledge to detail of the purchase.

But it explained
that the service of Globalstar in where at world-wide level 60 million dollars will be
reversed to 4.000 million dollars and in our country, will take the 15 of January of
the next year and the expectations are to have 10.000 users. The tariffs, aimed,
will be competitive; of 2 dollars per minute in Mexico.

Gonz lez Moreno emphasized that between the clients in Mexico de Globalstar
are organizations like PEMEX, the Federal Commission of Electricity and ICA
and states like Guanajuato, Chiapas, Tabasco, Puebla, Oaxaca, Guerrero and
Veracruz.

With the company/signature of the concession that granted the SCT to Globalstar,
this one obtains all the rights which they mark the Mexican laws to operate
services of satelite telephony in the country, informed the company. In agreement
with the plan of businesses of the company, as of the next year the equipment and
services of the company/signature could be acquired by the clients in the country.

With it, to globalstar will fulfill the necessities of communication of people in the
industries of the mining, construction, marine, petroleum, transport, farming,
services of emergency, geophysical and archaeology, among others.

Also, " it will offer an excellent system of telecommunication to the people who
travel by isolated zones of the country, to the sportsmen and explorers of the
nature. The satelite telephony fundamentally benefits those people who work in
remote countryside, which do not count on telephone infrastructure, or wire or
cellular ".

Thus, the company informed, the satelite telephony is complemented with other
existing types of telephony in the market. The directors of the company had to
work three years to make reality in Mexico the satelite telephony. With the
beginning of commercial operations of the company, the official inauguration of
gateway (it bases earth) in San Mart¡n Texmelucan will be carried out, Puebla.

This vestibule of communications will receive and process calls using the
constellation of satellites of Globalstar and the network of installed public
telephony. The Gateway of San Mart¡n will begin to operate in the next days.

The Globalstar telephones process so much the cellular signals as the satelite
ones, depending on the cover necessities of the user.
