Gotta disagree with you on this one.

Mcnamara and Westmoreland were not merely "doing their duty as they saw it". They deliberately lied and falsified figures to deceive the US Congress and public and give the false impression that we were "winning the war". In doing so, they perpetuated and prolonged the war, costing untold number of lives. Actually, I have ambivalent feelings about Jane Fonda. She was one of the few high-profile figures to declare against the war in the mid-to-late 60's at a time when this was a minority, decidedly unpopular viewpoint. At this time, she was NOT a major Hollywood box-office attraction and she joined the Vietnam war protest at great risk to her career. Her glorification of the North Vietnamese and characterization of the US soldiers as "baby-killers", etc., was, however, cowardly and unfair and she deserves all the discredit she has reaped for this.

I still believe that there is a special place in hell for McNamara and Westmoreland for their principal roles in perpetuating this unfortunate war.
