Oops,
It looks like the VARL bus might have left without me. Target was the high 20's. I did not expect to see that in a single day. The short term risk/reward just got a little worse.
MRVC looks to be setting up to break out on volume. Acceleration in volume in the last few minutes of trading today looks good for a continuation tomorrow.

** Net audience growth slows
The U.S. Internet audience is growing significantly slower than it used to, according to New York market researchers Cyber Dialogue. "This is forcing online marketers to focus more attention on attracting visitors from competitive sites and to improve customer service," explained Cyber Dialogue vice president Thomas Miller. One persistent barrier: A third of all U.S. adults see no need for the Internet. Moreover, a growing segment of adults who have tried the Net discontinued use, Miller said. This group exploded to 27.7 million adults in September, vs. 9.4 million in early 1997. Only about a third of these past users expect to go online again any time soon, Miller said. Cyber Dialogue conducted random in-depth interviews with 1,000 Internet users and 1,000 nonusers.
** AOL, Yahoo report record e-shopping
America Online (AOL) and Yahoo Inc. (YHOO) reported a whole lot of clickin' going on as the traditional start to the holiday shopping season began last weekend. AOL said 4 million members made an online purchase last week, 15 percent of them using the service for shopping for the first time. Yahoo said its online transactions the day after Turkey Day leaped 400 percent from a year ago. In the 10 days before the holiday, Yahoo had processed more orders than during the entire 1998 season. AOL said the value of its shoppers' transactions during Thanksgiving week was triple that of last year, with toys, apparel, flowers and sporting goods as the strongest categories of goods. |
