HWP tries hard for some .com biz.......Wonder how far this goes?

Hewlett-Packard and Amazon.com strike deal
PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov 30 (Reuters) - Computer maker Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE:HWP - news) said on Tuesday it entered into a broad agreement with leading Internet retailer Amazon.com Inc. (NasdaqNM:AMZN - news) in which Amazon.com will use HP systems in its Web infrastructure as well as offer HP products to its customers.

Seattle-based Amazon.com has also selected HP as its technology partner to provide the necessary Web infrastructure to run its site, the company said.

Additionally, Amazon.com will now make available products directly from HP, which, the company said, will increase selection and availability of HP products in Amazon.com's consumer electronics store.

HP said that Amazon.com's decision to partner with HP was driven in part by industry analyst projections that demands on Amazon.com systems will be three times greater this holiday season over past seasons.

HP also said the companies would engage in joint sales and marketing.

No one from either company was immediately available to comment on the deal.

Shares of HP were up 2-3/16 at 98-1/8, off a 52-week high of 118-7/16, up from a low of 61-3/16.

Shares of Amazon.com were down 3-13/16 at 86-5/8, off a 52-week high of 110-5/8, up from a low of 30-5/16.
