Jeff, the radical linguistics professor Noah Chomski did extensive studies on how the U.S. media are in cahoots with the government in manipulating public opinion. while i am no friend of Chomskis radical political standpoint (he's a sort of Marxist), one has to admire both his intellect and his ruthless uncovering of the 'democratic' propaganda machinery.
however, in spite of our society's short-comings i still much prefer it over the openly autocratic regimes of this world.
