That seems strange.

I'm no expert, but if you have a dedicated Internet connection you *can* be at higher risk than the average joe who gets a new IP address every time you dial-up your ISP. A dedicated Internet connection means your IP address doesn't change as often as a dial-up. (You could have the same IP address for many many months)

If someone wants your IP address it can be as easy as posting a link to his website and see the IP address who is visiting. Or have you e-mail him and get your IP address in the e-mail source code.

I can't see SI being the reason for a breach. If you stay on SI's computers the whole time, never click on a link to an outside computer, I would guess your chance of being hacked is nil.

If you want to be 99% safe, use your Internet computer for browsing, and keep your financial and confidential info on a stand alone computer that is not connected to a network. That's being a little paranoid. Best is invest in a firewall if you feel your at risk, have an expert configure it.

If you are a victim of a hack, report it to cert.org
