The ODBMS opportunity at the enterprise level is certainly limited. I wouldn't argue with her numbers, but I have not gaged the size of that market. Non of these firms has had much success cracking the mainstream enterprise market, which is essentially owned by a hand-full of companies like Oracle, IBM and Computer Associates.

The opportunity I see for VSNT and ODIS is the middle-tier space. Both companies have developed offerings catering to this market (which is growing very rapidly -- check out BEA Systems for details). This is where the growth is, and it's up to both companies to offer leading edge ODBMSes that compliment the needs in this area. Look at Versant's EJB Container efforts and ODIS's new products -- they are directed toward these very areas.

In terms of ODIS not seeing Versant in competitive situations, my guess is that you would get the same response from Versant regarding its recent wins, i.e. where's ODIS? As I said in an earlier post, the market is large enough for both players (or more) to prosper.
