The SPDR's (SPY) track the S&P 500. You can buy SPX options which are options on the same index OR you can get OEX options which are on the S&P 100. Given the lousy breadth of the market lately, I'd be more inclined to go after the OEX if I were using an option strategy. The big caps have performed better and have further to fall.

No options on QQQ, which tracks the Nasdaq 100. NDX options do much the same thing though.

I have been long QQQ with the balance of my cash, and just got out. I'm not quite ready to short, but may do so in the next day or two. We could still get some support from first-of-the-month inflows to give a good "getting out" point.

I will be looking to go long again later this month.
