Very good, Neo. A full time of it, I see. I have not been to Williamsburg very many times, but remember it being quite nice. I will perhaps go back early spring, as I have several times lectured my children on its history.
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving. All of us-- children, parents and both sets of grandparents went down to Virginia. I hunted quite a bit. Went for deer, took my kids for squirrel and on Thanksgiving eve some of us went out for wild turkeys. We prepared the turkeys and smoked the largest one of them very early Thanksgiving morning. I don't know if you've ever had it, but smoked turkey is truly excellent, and looks fabulous on the table.
We have a few traditional places we visit on Thanksgiving day, and so after Thanksgiving dinner visited those places, spending the balance the day there. While at one of them my kids and I performed a few Christmas tunes (we have been working on chorales, songs and hymns for some number of months). The grandparents were so moved and surprised that when we returned home that evening they implored us to give a mini recital. So we did a ton of chorales. We also performed two of my favourite little supernatural pieces: Bach's "Where Sheep Safely Graze" and, of course, "Jesu..." (These works put a lump in my throat every time I hear them.) We did Christmas carols and ended the thing with the traditional Chorus from Handel's Messiah (featuring yours truly singing baritone and tenor nearly simultaneously. Quite a hilarious feat.)
In a nutshell, it was a wonderful time. |
