I wonder if anyone else has thought about this?

There is a whole lot of TinySwitch to be sold to equip all those TV's that are going to be built to serve all the set-top boxes, as people use the TV to play those new 128-bit video games, and as HDTV comes online later.
I could imagine the concept of power-down mode becoming a "de facto" standard, as we become more conscientious of energy conservation. Just because it is cheap to let a light glow for 4-5 hours straight, there is NOTHING wrong with reducing power consumption during periods of non-use. Ditto for almost anything that now currently sits on a good portion of the time.
It is totally possible that the house of 10 years form now will contain a collection of "intelligent" appliances and systems, all idling in low-power consumption mode, and possibly being controlled with simple numeric codes entered in from either a remote control, or pre-programmed into a console.
Seem's to me thats one good reason to own POWI for the long haul, as well as GMST that may have the best inside track on creating the mumeric codes used to control systems, since their VCR Plus technology is already well established and has proven itself successful programming VCR's.
Imagine a keypad where you enter in codes, to control your coffee maker, TV, computer, heater, skylights, windows, water heater, stereo, and so much more ... and the beauty is that all these systems will be MUCH cheaper to operate, and MUCH more convenient since they will always be ready when you need them ... this is one reason why I own POWI for he longhaul.
