New World Mobility Partners With Nokia to Step Towards Third-Generation Mobile Services in Hong Kong

Completion of GPRS Core Network Brings Mobile Communications in
Hong Kong Into the New Millennium

HELSINKI, Finland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 1, 1999-- Joining hands to unveil a new chapter in Hong Kong's mobile communications industry, New World Mobility today announced that the installation of the Nokia General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) solution has been completed. Commercial launch of network services is scheduled for mid of 2000.

As a major stepping stone towards the third-generation mobile communications technology, GPRS boosts data speed to over
100kbits per second and enables mobile phone users to be permanently connected to the network. This opens the door to entirely new, innovative mobile applications such as high speed wireless access to the Internet and corporate LANs.

''The installation of the GPRS solution demonstrates our commitment to driving the mobile market towards the new era of advanced data services,'' said Albert Wong, Chief Executive of New World Telephone Group. ''As mobile phones are an essential part of our lives, we are striving to leverage advanced mobile communications technologies, such as GPRS and 3G, to empower our customers with the services and information they need through their mobiles.''

Mike Mulvey, Managing Director of Nokia Networks, Nokia (H.K.) Ltd, added: ''GPRS is a key building block in the smooth evolution to our vision of Mobile Information Society where users have access to information anytime, anywhere. Hong Kong is renowned for its very advanced telecommunications services and we are pleased to continue our partnership with New World Mobility to lead the next generation of even more advanced mobile services.''

New World Mobility has integrated the Nokia GPRS core network solution into its existing GSM infrastructure for testing and to prepare for future data speed needs. The Nokia GPRS core network solution includes the Serving GPRS support Node, the Gateway GPRS Support Node, the Domain Name Server, the Charging Gateway, Firewall and Ethernet switches. The hardware is already commercially capable and supports all ETSI specified interfaces and standards.

Besides installing the GPRS, New World Mobility and Nokia will also work closely together to develop services for the GPRS
network, including wireless e-commerce and wireless Internet access applications.
