While I must say that I haven't studied it closely, it seems unlikely that NTAP will be a gorilla. The much older, bigger, better established EMC remains only a King. The differences between NTAP and EMC are not so completely radical as to create a real disruptive situation. EMC isn't asleep, and will move into NTAP's space. They have the money, the marketing, and the sales force , and can get "good enough" technology via acquisition or internal development.
Speaking of disruptive technologies, the record of established companies being able to move effectively into the new technology is poor. However, unlike 20 years ago, we now have giants like CSCO that at their heart are dedicated to the ideas of change. Will they do better than their predecessors? I suspect that they will
Full disclosure- I own some EMC, but wish I had been smart enough to also buy some NTAP earlier.
Glad to see you back.
