Just a lurker, but I caught the Capellas interview. The CNN interviewer didn't do him any favors, asking virtually no-win questions. Capellas' answers were the best one could muster, though, I thought.

Q: How can you turn the company around in a declining PC market (my ed. it's not declining).

A. Compaq is not just into PCs. We have 3 markets: PCs for consumer, PCs for businesses and enterprise computers (and storage). Overall, opportunities are very good (or something like that, but good positive answer).

Q. How do you deal with people asking you that what Compaq really needed was a CEO from the outside, to re-invent Compaq.

A. I'm pretty new, only 10 months with the company. One thing he said that downplayed himself unnecessarily was that he said something like 'I sort of fell into this job.'

Q. Alta Vista spinoff, ready? Didn't get answer.

After Capellas was off, one commentator said that Compaq's vertical computing model was out of favor. Slam. Capellas should avoid CNN if these jerks are any indication. CNBC is much more fair, IMO. Capellas projects well, also IMO.
